Funds Still Needed to Build Stage in Memory of Natalie S. Hemingway

Donations to the Office of Tourism Gift Account are being accepted once again to buy materials to build a stage platform on the lawn of the Visitors Center dedicated in memory of Natalie S. Hemingway.

NatalieNatalie S. Hemingway taught music more more than 30 years in Fairhaven, then served on the Fairhaven School Committee and the Fairhaven Tourism Committee. She was involved in many civic activities over the years through her membership in the North Fairhaven Improvement Association, East Fairhaven Improvement Association, Fairhaven Improvement Association, Fairhaven Colonial Club, Fairhaven Village Militia and many other organizations and committees. Natalie developed some of the first historical walking tours that are still presented today by the Office of Tourism. She also published several historical books.

Natalie passed away in June 2017 at the age of 87 years. In memory of Natalie and to recognize her many years of service to the town, the Office of Tourism will be installing a 12’x16′ raised stage platform outside the Fairhaven Academy Building, to be used for outdoor performances.

Plans for such a stage were approved by the Fairhaven School Committee in the summer of 2015 when Natalie was still alive. At that time several hundred dollars were collected, which have been dedicated specifically for this project. Labor for construction will be donated, provided the building materials are supplied.

Recently a donation to this project was made by the Hemingway family. It is hoped that with the generous support of the community, the balance of the needed funds can be raised so that construction may begin.

To support this project, you may make a donation to the Tourism Gift Account. Checks can be made out to “Town of Fairhaven,” with “Tourism Gift Account” written on the memo line. They may be dropped off or mailed to Fairhaven Office of Tourism, 141 Main Street, Fairhaven, MA 02719.
